Summer Advisor – Middle School Program.
$4,000 • On-Campus • Room + Board Provided.
EXPLO Middle School at Wellesley College.
Wellesley, MA.
Dates (In Person): June 21–July 25, 2027 (5 weeks, includes training).
Why This Role Is a Great Fit for College Students:
This position is ideal for college students and recent graduates interested in education, youth development, psychology, leadership, or mentoring who want hands-on experience supporting middle school students in a vibrant residential campus setting.
As an Advisor, you’ll play a central role in creating a safe, inclusive, and joyful community, while gaining practical experience in supervision, collaboration, event planning, and student support—all on the campus of Wellesley College. You’ll also receive regular coaching and feedback from a supervising Director who is invested in your growth.
The Opportunity:
As an Advisor, you’ll be a mentor, role model, and community builder. All Advisors live on residence hall floors with students, support instructors, and help plan engaging activities and events. Days are busy and collaborative, and Advisors are essential to making the program run smoothly and successfully.
Within the Advisor team, there are three assignments:
- Residential Advisors work with a co-Advisor as the main point people for a group of students living on campus.
- Day Advisors serve as the solo lead for a group of day students.
- Program Advisors do not have an assigned student group. They support the program as a whole and work with students across campus in a variety of capacities.
We hire for the Advisor role generally. In most cases, you’ll learn your specific assignment once you arrive on campus, and assignments may change during the summer based on student and program needs.
You may also take on a specific program support role aligned with your interests and skills—such as activity coordination, supplies management, communications, or teaching an elective.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and mentor middle school students, whether as the lead for an assigned group of residential or day students or in a program-wide support capacity
- Live on a residence hall with students and help create a safe, supportive, and engaging living environment
- Participate in an on-call rotation in the residence halls and/or help oversee commuting students
- Assist instructors in classrooms as needed
- Help plan and lead afternoon activities and evening events
- Chaperone weekend and class trips in the greater Boston area
- Take ownership of a designated support role (e.g., activities coordination, supplies, daily newsletter, trip planning, or teaching an elective)
- Work closely with a supervising Director, taking part in regular one-on-one check-ins and group meetings and putting feedback into practice
- Adapt as assignments and responsibilities shift to meet student and program needs
